The project partners - Together for strong volunteering
The "Learn to Care" project was implemented by a dedicated consortium that combines expertise from different areas. Four partners from Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain contributed their experience, expertise and visions to jointly develop an innovative e-learning platform for volunteers. The project was initiated and managed by Zeitpolster.
Here we present the participating organisations:
Time cushion(Austria)
Competence profile:
Zeitpolster is an Austrian social enterprise that has developed innovative models for care and retirement provision. At the heart of Zeitpolster is an intergenerational pension scheme: volunteers collect time credits by providing care services, which they can later use for care themselves.
Role in the project:
- Project coordination and management
- Development of the course content for voluntary care work
- Development of the multilingual e-learning platform
- Integration of practical knowledge and experience reports from volunteer work
Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg - Innovation in Learning Institute (Germany)
Competence profile:
The Innovation in Learning Institute (ILI) at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg is a leading European centre for digital education, e-learning and innovative learning technologies. ILI develops and operates complex learning and examination platforms and has many years of experience in adult education projects.
Role in the project:
- Technical realisation of the e-learning platform
- Didactic preparation of the online courses
- Quality control of learning materials
- Integration of learning aids such as tests, self-monitoring questions and progress indicators
Citizens' co-operative b*coop Bressanone (Italy)
Competence profile:
The citizens' cooperative b*coop from Brixen in South Tyrol focuses on innovative forms of civic engagement. It combines social projects with new participatory approaches and promotes voluntary engagement in social and neighbourhood structures in particular.
Role in the project:
- Development of the podcast concept to visualise informal knowledge
- Organisation of podcast creation workshops for volunteers
- Collection and processing of real stories from volunteer work
- Support for the regional dissemination of project results
Asociación Iberoamericana de Bancos de Tiempo (Spain)
Competence profile:
This Spanish NGO specialises in the development and support of time banks - networks in which people exchange services on the basis of time units. The organisation has been working across Europe for over 15 years to develop social networks and innovative volunteer models.
Role in the project:
- Creation of best practice guidelines on recognition models for volunteer work
- Building up knowledge about engagement systems (e.g. time banks)
- Support for multilingualism and cultural adaptation of learning programmes

The utilisation remains free of charge and is constantly being expanded.
