What is this learning unit about?

Gender diversity is a key issue for an inclusive society. It is often assumed that gender is something unambiguous and visible - but the reality is far more complex. In order to understand gender diversity, we need to look at different categories. These include the diversity of bodies, the diversity of identities and the diversity of expressions. These three dimensions influence each other and result in a broad spectrum of ways in which people experience and express their gender.
This unit provides an introduction to the different facets of gender - from physical diversity to gender identities and gender expression. The aim is to develop an understanding of the complexity of gender and to create sensitivity for the needs of different people.
Why is this important? Misunderstandings and prejudices about gender diversity often lead to marginalisation and discrimination. By learning to recognise and respect this diversity, we contribute to a fairer and more open society.
