How can I prevent dementia?

"People who maintain social contacts are probably less at risk of developing Alzheimer's than those who lead a secluded life. That's what studies suggest. Older people can therefore be given advice. Play with your grandchildren, go on outings with other people, cultivate family life. People who are socially engaged actually live longer."
(Alzheimer, Diagnose Verlauf Behandlung, 2017, ed. VKI Müller, Dal-Bianco, page 109)

Keep an eye on yourself, especially for vascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiac arrhythmia and high cholesterol levels. Avoid smoking and alcohol and maintain a healthy body weight.
People with depression, lack of sleep and a low level of education also have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Serious head injuries, such as repeated concussions, can also increase the risk, as can hearing loss in old age, although this can be compensated for with suitable hearing aids. Exposure to particulate matter is now also cited as a possible risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. In any case, a healthy lifestyle is beneficial. This includes a diet that is orientated towards Mediterranean cuisine.
